And then if you have young children in your home as well…..well that takes the problem to a whole new level. You feel like you clean, scrub, and scour every inch of your home, and until the pest infestation is over, it just doesn’t feel clean. You feel like you have become a pest control service. And you are constantly checking your children with a microscope to make sure they haven’t caught anything of the crawly flea or tick sort.

I do have some really good news though for pest control, the lice that are on your pets generally don’t like humans. Cat lice prefer to stay with the cats. Dog lice prefer to stay with the dogs. So the bottom line is, if your cat has gotten a bad case of lice, your dog will not get the lice as well. Phew, now isn’t that a relief to know that you will not have to run around chasing lice out of your house for the rest of your life.  And you don’t have to call the pest control service.

So how can you prevent a infestation of lice?  Start with grooming your dogs and cats daily. Lice, fleas, ticks, and other yucky creepy crawly things have a harder time staying hid in an environment that is regularly cleaned and brushed. Matted clumps of hair really don’t help the problem either. One thing that I do know that lice don’t like is Tea Tree Oil Shampoo.

This is a great environmentally friendly preventive solution.  Lice do not like to smell of the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo. This shampoo is made for humans, but I have heard of people using a diluted solution of the shampoo on their larger pets. If you are going to give your pet a bath with using Tea Tree Oil Shampoo, be sure your pet does not lick at or get in shampoo in its mouth. And rise the pet’s fur thoroughly. The tea tree oil is toxic to animals, especially cats. The oil can remain in the fur, then the cat will ingest the oil while cleaning themselves.

Remember, cats lick themselves to clean their fur. The cat’s liver is also weaker than a dog’s liver, so be extremely careful if using Tea Tree Oil Shampoo on your pets. But the shampoo works really well if dealing with human lice. It sure will create a deterrent against the lice.
